Flag's point of view about the industry and cyberspace.

Flag's cyberspace discovery

The first word:

Ever since I got interested in computers some ten years ago, I quickly realized that learning and discovering would never end. Progress in technology and people like Bill Gates are seeing to that. In this chronicle I will share with the reader some of my findings, speak my mind and question the value of the NET on certain subjects.

First, I should introduce myself. Flag is the nickname that all my friends and some business relation call me by. It is much easier than attempt pronouncing my name properly. With a name like Flageole is was natural for some to find a way out of trouble. Flag was so easy. Now it is on my business card. My Email address, goes like this: flag@mksinfo.qc.ca. If you are curious, drop a line... or two or more!

The first discovery:

What a surprise when I received my very first Email message from Australia on the net. I replied immediately and it worked fine. My message went back to Australia in a couple of seconds and a new friendship was just about to become reality. Tim Kempton is an avid fisherman and he is hosting a page where you can find hundreds of home pages related to the subject. http://netspace.net.au/~kempton/ Trust me its worth the trip down under. Tim may visit America this summer and I hope to have the opportunity to show him where and how we catch trouts in Quebec. Just shaking his hand will be a WWW connection salute.

The first surprise:

In the past couple of months I did a lot of "surfing" on the NET to learn who does what, what is valuable, who are the best, how it's done and mainly how can one be successful with its home page? I also realized that it can be addictive for a curious person, yes I am curious! Sometime it can be a quality. Let me share this one with you. While surfing one evening in a hotel room in Kansas City I found a title with a word I had no idea what it meant. My english is fair but the word ANVIL cought my attention. I went into the site http://www.io.org/~dnewton/weasel.html and read the text this young man wrote about his anvil obsession. It was fun and made me aware that this 14 year old knew a lot about WWW and its components for his age. Another bright individual with whom is is nice exchanging.

The first lesson:

There was also this thing about a phrase I read somewhere in one of the pages that I will keep in mind for the rest of my life. It said: "To be worth being on the NET, one must give more than he takes, its the first value of the NET". Well, I will be trying to keep this in mind in this chronicle that will be updated regularly. I hope that you will enjoy reading it and that you will be kind and reply once in a while. I am curious and love to make new friends.

The first curiosity:

For real curious people with time on their hands you can always try: http://www.uroulette.com:8000/ its a whole new approach to discovery.

DISCLAIMER: 20-20 is not responsible for this chronicle. Flag is... old enough to take full responsability for his acts and young enought to be a little "different" sometime. Dont forget it "surfers".

next time: How far will the NET take us, at what speed?

The first salutation:

Have a very fine day!
